My 7 Simple Ways to Naturally Boost Your Digestion for Fat Loss (and just overall health) coming at ya!

Life is busy. It gets ahead of you and soon enough you’re sitting on the couch at the end of the day feeling sluggish and exhausted. Low energy is just ONE sign of poor digestion and it’s a chronic issue for many women who are trying to juggle all that life has to offer. Other symptoms like gas, bloating, abdominal discomfort, constipation, body aches and pains etc also stem from digestion. Does your digestive system need a reboot? Check out my tips below which you can incorporate into your lifestyle to help!

A healthy digestive system allows your body to get rid of waste, which can help you on becoming your best self.

1. JUST EAT REAL FOODS

It’s called JERF-ing and that’s what we focus on in my newest program Define and Sculpt Program. Real food means reducing the amount of processed foods that you consume. This includes foods with a long shelf life, sodas, cakes, your kids crackers, and take out. The idea is to eat your meals full of colorful veggies, and protein, snack on things like raw veggies and hummus or berries and nuts. This will all ensure you’re getting plenty of healthy fats, and fiber that will all help boost your digestion.

2. WATCH YOUR PORTION SIZES

If you’re a client of mine – you know that I encourage you to eat mindfully and recognize in the moment while you’re eating if you’re getting full.

But sitting down for a meal and having the proper portions in front of you is a helpful tool for improving your digestion so that you don’t have to worry about if you’re eating too much or too little. You need to eat the right amounts for YOUR body, not for your appetite. Does that make sense?

Consistently over eating puts a strain on your bodies energy systems and will lead to weight gain. Often women run into this issue because they’re serving themselves as much food as their partner who weighs more then they do and has higher caloric intake needs. And if you’re a mom – be sure you’re not reaching for the kids’ snacks all the time. That’ll also cause you to over-eat during the day.

3. ADD PROBIOTIC FOODS

I could write an entire book on the health benefits of probiotics and how EVERY human should make a point of getting plenty in their diet everyday. Certain foods are known for their probiotic benefits and can really help balance the good bacteria in your gut. Probiotic-rich foods include broth, sauerkraut, kimchi, miso and yogurt. You may also add a high quality probiotic to your daily regimen like this Garden of Life Womens Probiotic

4. EAT MINDFULLY

Um, I’ll be the first to admit this is one of the hardest points to follow through with. We all know that we shouldn’t be eating on the go or while doing something else such as watching TV or eating standing while taking care of your children (guilty). As often as you can – take the time to sit down to eat your meals and snacks at the table, rather than nibbling while you work or eating in the car.

This allows you and your body rest and focus on the food which allows you to realize how much you’re eating, how you’re feeling and you’ll enjoy your food more (all helpful in avoiding overeating).

5. STAY HYDRATED

Your body is about 70% water and it should be your highest priority when it comes to improving your nutrition. Every process in your body requires it, including digestion. Without enough water in your system, you physically can not break down food properly and push waste through.

I’d also recommend trying organic hot herbal and green tea’s to support your digestion, such as peppermint tea, ginger, turmeric and chamomile tea.

6. WAKE UP AND MOVE

Research shows that waking up in the morning and working out right away results in a more motivated individual that is more productive, and healthier. Pair that information with a research study that proved people who workout in the morning had a lower BMI, stronger heart and burned more fat throughout the day!

Living an active lifestyle doesn’t just restrict you to needing to get your sweat on in the morning. Exercising at any time during the day is better than not at all and helps to support your digestion. Grab your little ones if you have to and get in some squats, lunges and sit ups right in the comfort of your own living room! You don’t need a gym or fancy equipment to get your blood flowing!

7. DETOX YOUR SYSTEM

A detox aims to cleanse the body of toxins that build up over time. This allows for your organs to rest and recover, support and increase liver function, and give you a “boost” of important micronutrients. With a cleanse you will find yourself having more energy, controlled cravings, curbed food addiction, better managed stress and eliminated toxins from food and drink.

All of which – improves the health of your digestive system and will increase your bodies ability to break through plateaus and burn more fat.
